The basic things needed in order to get the internet access in our computer are:
Computer, Web Browser, Modem (or) a LAN connected to Internet, Internet Service Provider. Also we can buy some optional things like wireless router in order to have wireless network for our computer.
If we are connecting to internet indirectly we are opening the doors for internet intruders, viruses, worms, hackers etc. So it is better to install some good Anti-Virus programs in our computer.
Computer:
We may possess any computer like Apple computer, UNIX

workstation, Dell PC (Pentium processor or advanced preferable), IBM PC etc in order to have internet access.
The computer with the following specifications will be great for good internet access.
a. At least 20 MB of free hard disk space.
b. Pentium/ PowerPC or advanced processors.
c. 2 GB RAM.
d. Latest version of whatever operating system we are using in our computers.
Web browser:
A Web browser is a client side software program which can access a web page from the server and displays it on our computer. It sends the request for resources to the server on behalf of the users.
The request can be for a simple text, sound, pictures or videos. When the server sends the response, it interprets and displays on our computers. We can use the browser that best matches our needs.
Examples of browsers:
Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, Linux which is a text based browser etc.
