Internet
is a global information system that has a significant effect on technology and economy
of our society. It brings the people across different parts of the world close together
making the world, a global village.
Before a decade, the internet was thought as
a special network only for researchers, scientists, scholars etc. But today the
picture has changed so much that it is widely accessible by everyone.
Internet
is a network of thousands of networks worldwide. Basically client/server architecture
is used in the internet with the client being our computer.

Each computer connected
to the internet is called host. Basically the internet architecture was designed
to be open for connecting new networks so in a short period it became a most significant
communication medium for interconnecting all the computers world wide.
Internet provides the communication capabilities as well as the information sources.
Some of the services that the Internet can provide are World Wide Web, e-mail, online
file sharing, online chatting, online transactions, online ticketing, online gaming
etc. Almost every one of us is using these services daily.
