As it is difficult to remember the IP address generated by the Internet addressing system, DNS (Domain Name System) was created. Domain Name is the computer’s name registered on the internet.
DNS provides the address in the form of server names which is equivalent to IP address and makes sure that those addresses are unique.
DNS Name and IP Address are not same but they are related. We are using these DNS names to specify the address of web in the URL. A computer can have more than one domain name which so that it can serve for several web sites.

The Domain Name Server program runs on our Internet service provider's computer which associates the DNS name to IP address.
Example:
If IP address of a computer is a.b.c.d then its DNS internet address may be techstudentsworld.com. When we access this site through our browser then it turns into an URL something like http://www.techstudentsworld.com.
DNS divided the Internet into different component networks called domains. Every site in the Internet corresponds to one of the domains.
