Windows Explorer in Microsoft Windows

Microsoft introduced this Windows Explorer feature from Windows 95 for managing and exploring the files and folders present on different drives of our computer. It provides us with a graphical user interface to access the files and folders of the computer.

This is actually an operating system component which allows us to control the computer with a graphical user interface.

It can be also called as Windows GUI shell. Windows Explorer shows all the files and folders in My Computers, My Documents, My Network Places, Recycle bin, Desktop.

How to go to the Windows Explorer:

Right click on Start Menu-> Explore (or)

Start-> Run-> type “explorer” (or)

On keyboard, type “Windows” key + “E” (or)

Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> Windows Explorer.

Windows explorer also provides the search functionality and it is responsible for displaying start menu, desktop icons and control panel in addition to providing file management with graphical user interface.

As it provides detailed information of all our drives, folders and files, we can get a clear idea of how our files and folders are organized. We can also cut, copy, move, delete or rename our files and folders here.
