Microsoft
introduced Control Panel from Windows 1.0. Using Control Panel we can have a look
at and change the system settings and controls like Windows performance/appearance,
network connections, software/hardware settings etc.
Some of the important tasks
we can do using the Control Panel are installing/uninstalling software, adding hardware
components, access administrative tools, set scheduled tasks, altering accessibility
options, configure Windows firewall, control user accounts etc.
Control panel is
a graphical user interface which makes doing these tasks easier. We can go to the
control panel by
Start->
Settings-> Control Panel
|
Setting control
panel in Start Menu:
Right
click on Start-> Properties-> “Start Menu” tab-> select “Start Menu” radio
button and click on “customize” button-> select “Advanced” tab-> Under Control
Panel section, select either “Display as Link” or “Display as Menu”
When
we open the control panel, we can see the name of each task followed by the comments
regarding that particular task. Following these comments, it is very easy to do
these tasks in control panel.
We have
two kinds of views called classic view and category view for control panel in Windows
XP. Category view divides the control panel tasks like network/internet connections,
performance and maintenance tasks etc.
Whereas in classic view, we can see the list
of tasks that we can do in a single folder. The classic version view was used in
earlier versions of Windows XP.
