Biometric identification is prominently used among government offices like using biometrics to strengthen airport security, protect borders, and in other military and homeland security applications.
When a biometric device is used to authenticate identity credentials, the user has to first show his identification with an ID or some other identifying token.
After that the user has to go through a fingerprint recognition device or speak into a microphone to prove his identity.
Advantages of Biometrics devices
As biometrics are tied to a person uniquely for identification purposes, there
will be very less probability and chance of duplicating the Biometric characteristics.

|
For example, when a biometric identification characteristic like fingerprint is compromised, new fingerprints cannot be issued to replace the compromised feature.
Disadvantage of Biometrics
devices
If there are some individuals who don't fit into the standard patterns then there may be problem.
For example, Hand geometry devices cannot successfully identify the hand geometry of individuals with one or more extra fingers.
This will create a problem if the system security depends solely on hand geometry.
