Windows ME

Windows ME was released on September 2000, is an updated version of Windows 98 and is mainly focused on home PC users. Some of the significant features of Windows ME are:

a. Hybrid 16-bit/32-bit graphical operating system.

b. System Restore was introduced using which the users can undo the whole installation and get back to the earlier working state of the system.

This feature is very helpful in case of problems with the installation of new drivers or applications.

c. Support to Real mode MS-DOS was removed to increase the speed of system boot time.

d. Has System Configuration Utility, which provides a way for the users to extract and restore individual system files from the Windows Me setup files.

e. Dial-up Adapter section was added in System Monitor for watching Connection Speeds and bytes transmission or receiving.

f. Introduced support for Universal Plug and Play.

g. Automatic update utility was included.

h. Support for ZIP files was included.

i. Windows Image Acquisition API was introduced for easily communicating with the image acquisition devices.

j. Image Preview utility was included.

k. Has Windows Movie Maker software for basic video editing.

l. It Has Windows Media Player 7, Internet Explorer 5.5.
