Variants of UNIX Operating System

Some of the Unix variants available are:

HP-UX: This is developed by Hewlett Packard; the latest version is the HP-UX 11.31 also called HP-UX 11i v3.

Solaris: This is developed by Sun Microsystems; the latest version is Solaris 10 OS.

Mac OS: This is developed by Apple; the latest version is MAC OS X v10.5 named Leopard; the version currently in development and to succeed Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard is Mac OS X v10.6 called Snow Leopard.

Linux: This is developed by Linus Torvalds; the latest version is 2.6.26.

Even, after 40 years from its introduction, the Unix operating systems is regarded as one of the most flexible and powerful operating systems.
