DOS Operating System

MS-DOS 1.0 was the first version of MS-DOS operating systems series. It was based on Intel 8086 family of microprocessors and introduced mainly for IBM computers.

MS-DOS was the widely used operating system for IBM PC and its clones.

MS-DOS is a single-user, single-tasking operating system with a command line user interface.

MS-DOS is very small in size, which can be stored on a single floppy disk. It was one of the most successful operating system at that time.

Later MS-DOS 1.25, MS-DOS 2.0, MS-DOS 3.0, MS-DOS 3.2, MS-DOS 3.3, MS-DOS 4.0, MS-DOS 4.01, MS-DOS 5.0, MS-DOS 6.0, MS-DOS 6.2, MS-DOS 6.21, MS-DOS 6.22 were released.

The last version MS-DOS 6.22 was released in April 1994. MS-DOS is rarely used these days.

Windows with its Graphical User Interface, gradually replaced DOS for desktop computing. But all Windows versions also had a command line user interface like MS-DOS along with GUI.
