LPI (Linux
Professional Institute) is a non profit organization which is not tied to any specific
distribution of Linux. The certification is commenced since January 2000. This offers
certification in 3 levels.
LPIC1:
This
certification is for junior administrators who are beyond Linux power user level.
One has to pass two exams in order to achieve this certification. This exam focuses
on the following tasks:
Working at
Linux command line,
Performing
maintenance tasks like backup, restore, reboot and helping users,

Installing
& configuring workstation and connecting it to LAN or internet.

LPIC2:
One has
to pass LPIC1 in order to attempt this exam. This exam focuses on ability of individuals
to
Administer
a small to medium size site.
Plan, implement,
maintain and troubleshoot a small mixed network.
Help management
in making decisions of automation or purchases.

LPIC3:
This
is the top level certification designed for enterprise level Linux professional.
The certification contains one exam for Core designation. There are additional designations
with different proposed specializations on top of Core certification. The following
are the proposed Specializations:
Mixed Environment
Security
High Availability
Virtualization
Web and Intranet
Mail and Messaging
